Every few weeks or so I go to the NGV Prints and Drawing Archive with (Awesome) Ayano. It’s a great opportunity to study directly from master drawings.

Oh man, almost a full month without posting anything. That's terrible. I'm planning to start posting something new every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from now on. Here's something a day early.

The sketch isn't as complete as I'd have liked it to be but I was happy that I was at least able to jot down 'girl wearing a scarf reading a book'. With only the drawing to look at now I can see that there were a lot of details and forms which I left out that would have made the drawing less ambiguous. If I had a bit more time I would have clarified that her left hand was resting on the handle of a bike. I also think the line work needs a little more variety between thick and thin lines to help create more of a sense of depth.

Having never tried etching before, my friend Stephanie gave me a spare plate to doodle on. Etching is great fun (especially when you don't have to clean up all the mess afterwards)!

The flu has been going around lately and it has finally caught up with me. In addition to that I must have also caught the drawing bug as I suddenly got the urge to grab whatever was lying around to draw on. So here's a self portrait of me looking rather dishevelled, tired and unshaven.
